Artist statement

What unites us regardless of culture, country, or religion? What are we all moved by or can relate to? What are we all seeking deep down inside?

As an artist, the answers to these philosophical questions are what I seek to inspire.

My objective is to convey evolution and transformation through our connection with ourselves and others through time.

I nudge this dialogue through paintings, music and poetry.

Jenny Mørk is a Norwegian artist currently living close to Oslo. She started studying law in Bergen but grew hungry for something more creative after two years. This led her to study art at Les Beaux Arts de Nancy in France with a specialty in glass from CERFAV. She worked as a glass and multi artist for some years and later transfered into marketing, branding and design.

For the past 15 years she has been working in the corporate world as an IT designer and consultant. Over the years she has developed a keen sense and appreciation for concepts, composition, details and whitespace.

When the pandemic hit, she started painting and has taken several online painting courses since. In October 2021 she got diagnosed with breast cancer and went through rigorous treatments for a year. During this process she was reminded of how short life can be and started taking art painting more seriously. In November 2022 and February 2023, she held pop-up exhibitions in Oslo and in spring 2023 she exhibited at The Other Art Fair in London. Her first paintings were in acrylics, but she relatively quickly transferred to oil paints to capture more details and layers of life.

During 2022 and 2023 when generative artificial intelligence exploded, and Jenny got inspired by the trend. Her most current work is aiming at timelessness – the space between old symbols (19th century watches, dirty working hands and jeans) and future technology (7 fingers which points towards AI and biotechnology).

In general, she is inspired by people, technology, philosophy, and psychology.
